Five on Friday - Lines

1.What’s the longest line you’ve ever stood in?

Recently, Six Flags and it is never fun when you have a 5 year old and a 3 year old asking you why you can't just walk up to the ride and get on it.



2.When did you have the most fun waiting in line?

At Braums, to wait for my food.


3.What line, no matter how long or short it is, always drives you crazy?

At the grocery store! I want to go in and out in a flash and I hate it when people stand in line with gazillions of stuff at the express line!


4.When did you last behave in a manner that was over the line?

uhm......I don't want to disclose this one. I take the 5th.

Five on Friday - Unsual Stuff

1.What’s the most surprising or unusual thing to be found in your wallet, purse, or backpack?

When I find money in a forgotten corner of my purse or wallet. It is always a nice thing to find. Always.



2.What’s the most surprising or unusual thing to be found on your computer’s hard drive?

Lost family pictures and/or videos. We're always like "oh, I looked young!"


3.What’s the most interesting thing hanging on your walls?

My babies pictures. I just can't believe how time flies and I used to changed diaper not so long ago.


4.What’s the most uncharacteristic thing in your fridge?

A frozen beer bottle. I need to get it out.


5.What’s something you’ve done in the past year that you thought was going to be awful but turned out pretty good?

I was so afraid of delivering my babies but it was surely a relief.

Five on Friday - The Worst is Behind Us

1.What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve done in the past six months?

Open ing a Meetup group while unemployed. I guess I need to fill my time opening and closing, cleaning and organizing.


2.What recently could qualify as a happy accident?

Being laid-off. This week Sofia said to me, "I'm so happy you are with me every day mommy." This has certainly allow me to prioritize my life.


3.When did you last experience Buyer’s Remorse?

Only when I buy things for myself.


4.In what way do people keep underestimating you?

By pre-judging my character before getting to know me. They judge I'm a big "B" then months or years later they realize I'm not that type of person.


5.What have you got in your pocket?

A lonely Penny. Sofia and Raquel put coins in my pockets whenever they find one laying around the house.

Five on Friday - Sum

1.Who stands out among people you met in 2012?

I reconnected with my best friend again so in a way we met each other all over again.



2.What new interest did you discover in 2012?

I discovered Etzy and the high it gives me when I sell an item.


3.In what way was 2012 better than 2011?

We were finally able to take a vacation! South Padre was great and we finally remodeled our bedroom!


4.What small, symbolic item might serve as a good souvenir for 2012?

I used to hold on to items to remind me of  things that would soon come to the past but not anymore. I'm just grateful to be with my husband and daughters each and everyday of their lives.


5.Many years from now, what song, when you hear it on the radio, will remind you most of 2012?

"Call Me, Maybe." Stupid, stupid song! But my husband and daughters dance to it. I'd much prefer to turn to my 80's retro music.

Five on Friday - Exertion

1.What was the cause of your last working up a sweat?

Cleaning two bathrooms, cleaning my entire wood floors, and kitchen floor, kitchen table and yesterday, I did laundry. I need a job so someone else can clean for me.



2.What routine part of your life seems to take more mental effort for you than for most others?

Waking up every morning.


3.What’s something many others consider laborious but you consider rather easy?

Cooking for my family. Even though I HATE cooking, I rather see my family eat healthy than junk food. So, my hate of cooking must be put aside.


4.What’s something you’re going to have to do really soon but have been putting off just because it’s going to be a lot of work?

Run more than one day a week. Really, I can't lose my weight if I don't run more than once a week.


5.Where’s the steepest hill in your neighborhood?

The walking trail across the street from my house has several hills, I don't know which one I hate the most, they are all the same.

Five on Friday - Vice Squad

1.What is your history with cigarettes?

I did them in my early 20's just to experiment, I did like them but I was too cheap to buy them, I would have to say that at the time my friends gave them to me like candy. Then, the smoking got pretty out of hand when my cousin died, then I smoked like crazy. Then, I started playing soccer and running and I couldn't do both. So, I quit cold-turkey. Now, I have ashtma and I can't even be standing close to a smoker.


2.What is your history with alcoholic drink?

My history with alcohol is on going thing! I LOVE LOVE LOVE wine and once in a while when I have run out of wine, I pick me up beer. I ain't an alcoholic just love to drink when I feel like it. Thankfully, my husband doesn't judge me and he's actually picked up on wine like me.

3.What was the worst trouble you got into at school?

When I got caught cheating in my math test. I was so embarrassed in humiliated by my teacher. Thankfully, he did in private and didn't blured it to the entire world! I respected for that. But ended up forgiving me. I will never forget him!


4.What’s something you got away with in school but shouldn’t have?

Some things are better left unsaid. Besides, I hated school here in the States, it just totally sucked!


5.Who’s your partner in crime?

Patricia Galbraith!!! My friend for life!

Five for Friday - Statehood

In honor of Hawaii's Statehood fifty-three years ago this August:

1. Hawaii’s nickname is the Aloha State. If your neighborhood were to be admitted as the fifty-first state, what would be its nickname?

Lone Star Neighborhood. (I know, lame.)


2. What do you own fifty of?

Quarters. I like to save quarters.


3. What’s the nicest beach you’ve been to?

A toss up between Cancun and Oahu, with the only difference Cancun has less jellyfish.


4. A pizza with ham and pineapple is often called a Hawaiian pizza (something that annoys many of us who live here and can’t stand that flavor combination). If you live in Hawaii, what should rightfully be called a Hawaiian pizza, and if you live elsewhere, what would go on the pizza named after your area?

Since I'm married to a Hawaiian native born, I would say a Hawaiian pizza should have Spam!


5. What mental and emotional states do you hope to attain this weekend?

Healthy state from my cold.

Five on Friday - Identity

1. What would be cool “entry music” for you upon your arrival at work or school?

I will Survive!

2. How have you personalized your personal computer?

With pictures of my daughters when they were babies! Oh how I wish they were babies again. Back then there was no fighting amongst them.


3. If someone were trying to decide if something were written in your handwriting, what might be a giveaway?

I write cursive and most people can't!


4. If someone who loved you wanted to get a tattoo on his or her arm as a secret reminder of you, what would be a good tattoo?

If that someone asked me that question that would be a red flag for me and I would run as fast as I can. First, I don't believe in tattoo's, second, if that person wants my name on his butt, he's got issues!


5. If you were the sort to do damage to others’ property, what would your graffiti name be?

I would take my key and scracht his car. In the past, I wanted to do that a couple of times but I figured life would take care of their bad deeds.

Five on Friday - Lost

1.How easily to do you get lost?

Harldy, unless, I get lazy and don't write down directions well. Then I freak out and start calling.



2.What subject in school made you feel most lost?

Hands down, Math! All the way to College.


3.What’s something you’ve recently misplaced and have not yet found?

My Sleep. I lost it in February 13th, 2008 when I delivered Sofia and I still have not been able to fully replace it. Things got worse after Raquel was born. One day I hope I get to find it and embrace it again.


4.What’s something you found and were able to return to its owner?

Never. I usually just go to the lost and found section and leave it up to them to find the owner.


5.When you need some alone time and don’t want anyone to know where you are, where are you most likely to disappear to?

In my couch. Funny enough, my girls call my name and look everywhere in the house but the couch.

Five on Friday - Similes

1.In what way is Tabasco like love?

When it burns it hurts really bad!


2.In what way is the beach like school?

Like the sands on the beach, knowledge is endless!


3.In what way is the sky like your heart?

Well, that's pretty easy. It stretches as big as the sky to love and love and love as many as it can.


4.In what way is your family like a box full of toys?

Not one family member is made the same way. And that makes family an interesting ride.


5.In what way is a cookbook like your ambitions?

Too many ambitions to choose from, must do one at at time, just the like the cookbook, must cook one at a time and find out which recipe is the winner!

Five on Friday - Fences

1.What’s something you were unreasonably forbidden from doing when you were a kid?

Talking back to my mom, hitting back at my siblings when she was around.



2.In what area of your life would you say you have especially conservative boundaries?

That's an easy one: My moral values. I don't care what society/media/politicians say, I'm sticking with what I know is morally correct.


3.In what area of your life would you say you have especially permissive boundaries?

I'm not quiet sure I can think of one; I'm sure there is one but can't come up with it.


4.In what area of your life do you routinely go over the line?

I have to check myself when I become intolerable and pick my battles.


5.How many keys do you have on your key ring?

I have 5 keys. Two I don't know what they are for; the other two, I think are my house keys (I think) and the last one is my car key.

Five on Friday - Travel

1. If you could get on a plane tomorrow, where would you go for a week? Where would you go for a month?

Oahu.

2.Where do you want most to return to?

Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

3.What was your most memorable meal or drink while traveling?

New Orleans, Diaquiris!


4.What is the most breathtaking view in your city? How about from your travels?

Standing on top of Diamond Head; the view is breathtaking!


5.What’s the most touristy thing you’ve done?

ugh! Wearing a travel belt pouch. Even John told me it looked pretty "American." But I wanted to keep all my small stuff safe in one place but looking back I could have bought a cute traveling purse instead.

Five on Friday - National Library Week

1.What were the libraries at your elementary and high school like?

A peaceful place where I could escape and be by myself.


2.What’s interesting about your nearest community library?

Lots of children Spanish books!

3.What is the longest you’ve had an overdue library book?

hmmm...I still have the overdue library book from years years ago.

4.Among people you know who aren’t already librarians, who would make a good librarian?

My husband, John. He loves books.

5.Who is your favorite librarian?

Can't think of one....

Five on Friday - Handle

1.How well do you handle the sight of blood?

Not well at all. I may be color who knows, but I just panick.


2.How well do you handle bumpy plane rides?

Not well at all. In fact, I don't like plane rides. I like vacations but not plane rides.


3.How well do you handle spicy food?

Very well, in fact. Whoever invented spicy food is top chef in my house.


4.How well do you handle (or think you could handle) yourself in fisticuffs?

My husband thinks I hit like a girl but I know I can cause some real damage.


5.How well do you handle a chef’s knife?

Butter knife, very well. Thank you.

Five on Friday - Go Fly a Kite

1.When was the last time you flew a kite?

Let's see. I was probably ten. I was in El Salvador and we always made our kites out of newspaper. It was always fun making them, attaching a string was, I think the hardest. If the wind was blowing too hard, the string would snap out of the kite and it was back to square one.



2.When did you last jump into a lake?

My Father used to take us to Lavon Lake here in Dallas. I hate it. It was muddy. Not like the lakes back in El Salvador.


3.When did you last get outta town?

This year January to Kansas City, MO. Job related.


4.When did you last take a hike?

I believe it was last fall, Labor Day. We are due for one very soon.


5.When did you last play in traffic?

I don't quite understand this question, since driving and playing do not correlate like texting and driving.

Five for Friday - Adaptation

1.What’s a film, adapted from a book you liked, that was as good as (or better than) its source material?

Pride and Prejudice (Colin Firth's) I loved that they included every detail from the book to this series. My favorite version so far.



2.What’s a good film based on a book you disliked?

 I can't think of any book that I have disliked; normally, I choose books based on content and reviews.


3.What film, adapted from a book you liked, was horribly disappointing?

I find myself in the minority when I disliked Sense and Sensibility (Kate Winslet). They need to re-do this one.


4.What book, not yet made into a film, would make a really good film?

Any book from Paulo Coehlo's. He's genious writer!


5.What’s a book you’ve read because you liked the film that was based upon it?

Harry Potter. My husband made me.

Five On Friday - Personal Adds

1.What’s your favorite “just add water!” food?

Rice.


2.What’s your favorite thing to add vinegar to?

When I'm marinating beef, I usually add vinegar so that it becomes tender; also I add vinegar to clean my daughter's humidifier.

3.What’s something weird you’ve added to normal food?

Slap Ya Mama! This thing is amazing!

4.What’s your favorite thing to add whipped cream to?

All deserts, big and small!

5.What’s something you refuse to add anything to, even though most people add something?

Ketchup. I hate it.

1.What’s a decorative font you really like? Edwardian Script

2.MS Word uses Times New Roman as the default plain font; Apple Pages uses Helvetica. Is there a plain font you like better?

I have never worked or own an Apple computer so Times New Roman is what I know.

3.In words per minute, how fast do you type? (if you Google “check your typing speed” or something like that, you’ll find many online options for testing yourself)

Let's see in High School I typed 80 wpm; 23 years later I'm down to 55wpm, I guess age does handicap you in many areas including typing.

4.Who in your life is just your type, but for some reason not romantically compatible with you?

I had great guy friends who I adored and loved to hang out with but not in "that way," and they just couldn't accept it, thus ending the friendship.

5.What’s your blood type?

O Positive.  Blood Banks love me.

Five on Friday - BRRRR

1.What’s your favorite thing about cold weather?

Absolutely nothing, but the promise of SPRING!


2.Soups and hot beverages seem to be everyone’s favorite cold-weather culinary combatant, but what’s another food that seems to take the bite out of the cold?

Hot Spicy Chili, Red Wine, Chicken Soup, Red Wine, Chowder Soup and Red Wine! 

3.When the weather is just starting to turn cold but is not yet in full frigidity, what do you add to your bed until it’s time to break out the heavy artillery?

First I turn up the Thermostat to 75/76 degree, a couple of socks, two comforters, and John's feet.

4.What household chore seems especially unkind in these colder months?

Picking up the mail.

5.Among people you know, who seems most oblivious to cold weather?
 
John loves winter, it is his favorite time of the year. Give me the beach any time specially during the winter months. brrrrrr.

Five on Friday - Illness

1.When you’re sick in bed, do you prefer to be left alone or to be taken care of?

Pamper me please! with a delicious hot soup and a remote control.

2.How difficult or cooperative are you as a patient?

I'm pretty cooperative and talkative. I like to talk to the nurses and get to know them and ask them why they chose their profession and all their stories vary and then they start telling stories about bizarre patients. It gets pretty interesting.

3.It’s just a really bad cold so all you can do is ride it out. What are your strategies?

1. Aspirin
2. TheraFlu

4.How ill do you have to feel in order to shut it down for the day?

Temperature must be over 100 so that I can call quits.

5.Waves of nausea are washing over you and through you. Do you fight them off, or do you just throw up to get it over with?
 
Throw up and keep moving. No sense of fighting the inevitable.
