Movies We Watch

Movie: Warrior

This movie is about two brothers that find themselves fighting in a half a million UFC match; Their relationship was marred by their former alcoholic abusive father who's wife left him and took one of the sons who later comes back seeking help from his estranged father and help him train for the fight, unbeknown to him his estranged brother who's about to lose his house and finds himself going back to fighting to save his house. Nick Nolte plays the alcoholic father and no wonder he earned a well deserved Oscar nomination for this role; I felt sorry for him all throughout this movie. If you are into UFC cage fighting you should watch this movie; I like good fights and choosing between the brothers was very heartening but I did have my favorite from the get go.

We give it 4 UFC's Stars!

Movie: Cowboys & Aliens

One thing I have learned about alien movies is if you want to beat the aliens get to the source as fast you can if you want to live! Harrison Ford plays the tough bad guy and...gulp...Daniel Craig plays the cowboy who finds himself with an alien bracelet who doesn't remember how he got in the first place; what we wondered was why he was casted for this movie role, for heavens sake, he's freaking James Bond! He's an English man trying to do a western accent. We noticed his lines were short and the first 10 minutes of the movie he doesn't speak a word. Let's keep Daniel Craig across the pond. No big surprises in this movie and we figured it out pretty quick.

We give it. 2 Aliens; these dudes were the only watchable thing in this movie.

Movie: Knight and Day

Tom Cruise playing another spy movie who is trying to clear his name. The difference between this movie VS. Ethan Hunt very little, he was more comical in this movie. Tom Cruise rocks as an action star period but I think he's co-star, Cameron Diaz, was not adequately cast for this role, she's showing her age and we were not very impressed with her, I'd advise her to stay with comedy playing the ditsy blond; she's she's not an action star. We kept coming back to the amazing Mr. and Mrs. Smith movie; this Knight and Day movie shows absolutely no originality, thus it did have very funny moments but it did fall short as far as a surprising ending.

We give it 2 Knights and 0 Days.

My Favorite Things this Month - January

I guess this could be a new post segment of mine, I'll see if it survives...

At any rate, these are the things that I have been enjoying this month.

1. Sweet'n Salty Chex Mix - Honey Nut. This thing is amazing! I swear is hard for me to stop eating it. The girls and I devour one bag by ourselves; We had a great time eating the entire bag; John bought to snack on but we ended up finishing the entire bag! Shame on him. This ain't good for my diet.

2. Downton Abby - I'm not into TV Drama whatsoever, in fact, I'd rather watch a football game than any drama that's on TV nowadays, but last summer when I had ran out of British drama to watch, I stumble upon Downton Abby and I was captivated by the numerous positive comments about it so and since it was available on Netflix I decided to give it a chance. I was hooked after the first episode and ended up watching the entire first season in 5 days. Huge cliffhanger at the end! I was upset Lady Mary didn't accept Matthew but unfortunately she's carrying rather a large baggage she carried off along with her mom and Anna. We had to wait until this month for the second season to air after it finished airing in Britain. It rather sucks, we Americans have to wait for them to watch it first. Don't they know we hate to wait! At any rate, so far the second season has me at hello, John is also hooked. He watched the entire first season in one seating. (one day, that is.)

One more thing: PBS, thank you.

3. Running - I'm running once again, after taking a two month hiatus and the results from not running are not pretty but I've had enough and decided to come back and lose the weight and do what I love the most. Running. I'd love to find me a running buddy...but in the meantime, I'll enjoy running by myself.

Five On Friday - Personal Adds

1.What’s your favorite “just add water!” food?

Rice.

2.What’s your favorite thing to add vinegar to?

When I'm marinating beef, I usually add vinegar so that it becomes tender; also I add vinegar to clean my daughter's humidifier.

3.What’s something weird you’ve added to normal food?

Slap Ya Mama! This thing is amazing!

4.What’s your favorite thing to add whipped cream to?

All deserts, big and small!

5.What’s something you refuse to add anything to, even though most people add something?

Ketchup. I hate it.

Raquel's Surgery

Today, Raquel Seaman had her Adenoids removed. I dreaded this day so much I had nightmares last night. The only thing that was hilarious is when she was given the Silly Medicine to make her drowsy and laugh at everything; they are giving this so that they won't have separation anxiety.

Recovery time is never fun. She became hysterical and she her nose was bleeding. Blood makes my knees go weak but thankfully John was there to help me out. I'm thankful this part is over!

The Summons

There are some songs that touch your core and this one always does. Everytime, I hear this song during mass all I want to do is get on my knees and cry and feel his embrace and mercy.

Will you come and follow me if I but call your name?
ou go where you don't know and never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown? Will you let my name be known,

will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?
Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare should your life attract or scare?

Will you let me answer prayer in you and you in me?
Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name?
Will you set the prisoners free and never be the same?
Will you kiss the leper clean and do such as this unseen,

and admit to what I mean in you and you in me?
Will you love the "you" you hide if I but call your name?
Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same?
Will you use the faith you've found to reshape the world around,

through my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me?
Lord your summons echoes true when you but call my name.
Let me turn and follow you and never be the same.

In Your company I'll go where Your love and footsteps show.

Thus I'll move and live and grow in you and you in me.

Five on Friday - Type

1.What’s a decorative font you really like? Edwardian Script

        Sandra Seaman

2.MS Word uses Times New Roman as the default plain font; Apple Pages uses Helvetica. Is there a plain font you like better?

I have never worked or own an Apple computer so Times New Roman is what I know.

3.In words per minute, how fast do you type? (if you Google “check your typing speed” or something like that, you’ll find many online options for testing yourself)

Let's see in High School I typed 80 wpm; 23 years later I'm down to 55wpm, I guess age does handicap you in many areas including typing.

4.Who in your life is just your type, but for some reason not romantically compatible with you?

I had great guy friends who I adored and loved to hang out with but not in "that way," and they just couldn't accept it, thus ending the friendship.

5.What’s your blood type?

O Positive.  Blood Banks love me.

Consequences of Underage Drinking

This information is for those parents who allow their children to drink! Shame on you!

---------------------------------------------

Recent research has shown that underage drinking has a negative effect on the development of the brain. Consumption of alcohol at an early age hampers the physical growth and development of the brain. Underage drinking has an adverse effect on the development of memory. It decreases the abilities of planning and execution, spatial operations and memory. Underage drinking leads to attention disorders and difficulties in concentrating.

Studies have shown that around 40% of those who start drinking before the age of fifteen, are sure to meet the criteria of alcoholism later in life. Underage drinking has grave and long-lasting consequences.

Underage drinking:

Plays a significant role in risky sexual behavior, including unwanted, unintended, and unprotected sexual activity, and sex with multiple partners. Such behavior increases the risk for unplanned pregnancy and for contracting sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including infection with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

Increases the risk of physical and sexual assault.

Is associated with academic failure.

Is associated with illicit drug use.

Is associated with tobacco use.
Can cause a range of physical consequences, from hangovers to death from alcohol poisoning.

Can cause alterations in the structure and function of the developing brain, which continues to mature into the mid- to late twenties, and may have consequences reaching far beyond adolescence.

Creates secondhand effects that can put others at risk. Loud and unruly behavior, property destruction, unintentional injuries, violence, and even death because of underage alcohol use afflict innocent parties. For example, about 45 percent of people who die in crashes involving a drinking driver under the age of 21 are people other than the driver.9 Such secondhand effects often strike at random, making underage alcohol use truly everybody's problem.

In conjunction with pregnancy, may result in fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, including fetal alcohol syndrome, which remains a leading cause of mental retardation.

Is a risk factor for heavy drinking later in life,11 and continued heavy use of alcohol leads to increased risk across the lifespan for acute consequences and for medical problems such as cancers of the oral cavity, larynx, pharynx, and esophagus; liver cirrhosis; pancreatitis; and hemorrhagic stroke.

5 Things About Me Today

1. I fear flying therefore, everytime I travel I stress out including vacation travel, I do get excited to travel to a new exciting place besides, Kansas City (work related). I do fall asleep but turbulence can get pretty rough at times.

2. I love rain but I don't like it when it rains when is bitterly cold and windy. I find it depressing actually, mostly in January after attending parties, opening gifts and spending time with family to absolutely nothing to do in January. What a lonely month with no exciting holidays to celebrate. Yuck.

3. I'm running once again after taking a two month hiatus and I do show the hiatus right in my belly. I have promise myself not to overeat during the months of November and December; I will behave and resist eating everything that comes in front of me.

4. I cut my hair pretty sure and I have gotten tons of compliments about it and I have cut down by 15 minutes my prep time every morning; but since my brother is getting married this June, I will let it grow so that I may show really pretty in the wedding pictures!

5. Downton Abbey is back! and John is hooked and I'm happy he also finds it fascinating like I do, we can now talk about it for hours (not really)! I love classical drama full of twists, love triangles and most of all English charm!

What are the odds!

What are the odds of both of your children to suffer from the same thing? Very likely said the ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) Doctor this morning after we inserted a tiny camera into Raquel's nostrils to check whether or not Raquel's adenoids were swollen after having four sinus infections back to back.

My suspicions were correct even though John doubted Raquel would have the same problem and unfortunately for Raquel she must now face surgery just like Sofia. I'm upset but it is for the best and after seeing how well Sofia has been dealing with her allergies, I feel optimistic. The only bad thing is recovery time after surgery.

I ask for prayers on Raquel's upcoming surgery; I will update.

God bless!

Well, There Is Always Next Season

At least we got the Mavericks, right? hmmmm....Never mind that. At any rate, Win or go home and the Cowboys decided to go home and call it a season, they didn't show up in the first half trailing 21 points and tried to make a come back in the second quarter only to do the same thing they have been doing all year, offense did nothing, defense did nothing, Romo did exactly what he has been doing since starting as a quarterback, NOTHING.

For a minute there the Cowboys made me believe we could tie the game but it was just wishful thinking. I wonder whose head shall roll tomorrow. John wants Jason's head to roll. All I want is for Romo to be rolling, better yet, Jerry shall fire himself and end our 15 YEAR LOSING STREAK!

I will always love my Dallas Cowboys no matter what, it hurts to lose and not make the playoffs (15 years and only one playoff win, it does hurt). Well, until next season. Go Cowboys!

On a different note: John and I should have invested our time by watching Captain America! darn it!

Stuff I Forgot to Post

I have had a pretty busy time off from work and between prepping for Christmas, New Years, Sofia and Raquel getting sick, shopping, etc, etc, etc., I missed posting events in our crazy little world.

We baked tons of cookies for Christmas and we, including me, ate them all! Sofia was really into it...

Raquel was only interested in eating the frosting.

We also visited Santa's Village in Richardson. We missed out on Santa but Sofia and Raquel didn't seem to mind.

They are into Gingerman cookies so much Raquel wanted to pose "by" them not "away" from them.

I love the way Sofia looks in this picture!

I couldn't take one solo of Raquel since she can't stand in one place for too long.

Anthony, my nephew, posing as a pirate of some sort.

After toasting in the New Year, Sofia's and Raquel's New Years Resolution was to start walking in 4" heels.

They succedeed!

I'm not going to say who has two left feet; I'm sure anyone can tell..

David did improve on his second try!

Anthony loved it!

My Stupid New Year's Resolutions 2012

For 2012, I will...

1. Quit walking off with other people's pens unless the pen is really, really cute or the color green.

2. I vow to squeeze the tube of toothpaste from the end and not the middle. Unless I am trying to annoy my husband of course.

3. Spend less than $1,825 for coffee at Starbucks this year.

4. I will spend less than one hour a day on the Internet. This, of course, will be hard to estimate since I'm not a clock watcher.

5. I won't worry so much when time is faster than I am.

6. I will cut my hair, grow my hair, cut it, grow it, cut it, grow it....

7. I will try to love on my dog Lenny a little bit more this year even though I prefer to love on my other two dogs.

8. I will try to drive "closer" to the speed limit while passing slower cars.

9. To hire someone come clean my house even though my husband thinks is a waste of money.

10. Get rid of my fear of flying and just resolve on taking sleeping pills.
